To start and/or stop EC2 instances, you can either use standard Actions or Managed Instances.

To use standard Actions, create and configure one of the following actions from the “Actions” tab:

  • Start EC2 Instance – Starts (and optionally stops) one EC2 instance
  • Start Multiple EC2 Instances – Starts (and optionally stops) one or more EC2 instances
  • Stop EC2 Instance – Stops (and optionally restarts) one EC2 instance
  • Stop Multiple EC2 Instances – Stops (and optionally restarts) one or more EC2 instances

To use Managed Instances:

1. Create a new Managed Instance from the “Managed Instances” tab.
2. Configure the “Start/Stop” schedule of the Managed Instance
3. If you don’t want to backup the EC2 instance you can disable the “Backup” and “Delete Backups” schedules

Using Managed Instances may be easier to get up and running quickly, but using standard actions will give you greater flexibility.
